As mothers we can call upon the power of God using a back to school prayer with our child to help comfort the worries they may have. Prayer can help strengthen our children when going back to school knowing they are guarded up by the very angels of heaven.
With summer drawing to a close the flurry of back to school preparation is in full swing. While readying for a new school year can bring concerns or worries on the best of years, dealing with the start of school in the middle of an ongoing pandemic has an extra layer of concern and unknowns.
A mother can’t control everything but she can pray and prayer is a power that changes things, so as you head in to the new school year utilize these 6 powerful back to school prayers on behalf of your kids for a more peaceful, productive and protected school year.
Back to School Prayer for Safety
Isaiah 41:10 – Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Perhaps the biggest concern you might have in sending your child back to school in this tumultuous world is the worry for their safety. Internalize this scripture verse this year as you pray over your children. Pray that they will be watched over and protected and that they will be sensitive to the whispers of the Spirit that would keep them safe from harm.
Pray that you and they will not be overcome with fear but with a spirit of peace and courage, knowing that the most powerful being in the world is their father, their protector, their help and their strength. You can have no better partner as you navigate life’s challenges so pray over your children for protection for God to be with them and strengthen and help them.
Back to School Prayer for Integrity
Colossians 3:23 – And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
Sending out kids out into the world can feel daunting — will they stay true to the principles they’ve learned at home? Will they stay strong against negative peer pressure? Memorize this scripture with your kids and pray that they will do works unto God and not unto their peers. Pray each day that they will seek His approval in their words and deeds even if it makes them unpopular or requires standing alone.
Pray that they will have the strength to live what they know to be true and right in any situation and to do it heartily! With courage and the peace that comes from choosing the right.
Back to School Prayer for Friendship
Proverbs 18:24 – A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
We all know that friends play a huge role in our kids lives. Friends can be a great force for good but all kind of problems can happen if our kids find themselves with friends who put them down or encourage them in the wrong things. Pray over your child and their friendships. Pray that they will be led and directed to find the right friends and that they will be in tune with the Spirit to know who needs a friend. Pray that your child will be able to look outward and be aware of those in need of friendship and that they themselves will be a true friend, the kind that is sticketh closer than a brother.
Back to School Prayer for Courage
Deuteronomy 31:6 – Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Starting a new school year brings a lot of change. Perhaps they are at a new school or don’t have friends in their classes. Maybe they are taking extra challenging classes or hoping to make a sports team. Pray that your daughter will have the courage to go forward, armed with the knowledge that God goes with them.
Pray that they will have courage to stand up to bullies and to reach their potential. Pray that they will internalize the truth of this scripture, that they need not fear for God will never fail or forsake them in all their righteous endeavors.
Back to School Prayer for Endurance
Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
We don’t know what the school year will hold — will it be another year with times of virtual learning? Will a class or a math concept come up and stop our kids in their tracks and cause them to struggle? The reality is that working hard through the entire school year will require a good bit of endurance from both you and your daughter.
Pray for the kind of endurance that gives their all even as a fall or Christmas break nears. Pray for the kind of endurance that allows them to feel the strength to do the hard things and to face the hard subjects, giving their all rather than giving up.
Back to School Prayer for Divine Worth
Galatians 3:26 – For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
If we can send our children to school with just one prayer, perhaps it would be the prayer that they KNOW their divine worth as a daughter or son of God. Pray that your daughter can internalize her self worth in its truest form — that she is a valuable, beloved, cherished and never forgotten daughter of God. That her worth has nothing to do with the latest fashion trends, the popular crowd, her ability to do well in English class or the amount of friends she has.
Pray for her to truly know and remember her divine nature and to let that knowledge influence all that she does, how she loves herself and others and how she has courage to keep trying and never give up.
